Students set high standard
Pavitra Krishnamani graduated a year early from the Charter School of Wilmington and was completing her freshman year at the University of Southern California when she found out about her scholarship win.
"I guess my initial reaction was surprise," said Krishnamani, "I knew my application was strong, but seeing it on a piece of paper was different."
She is happy at USC, and has become involved with many different activities.
"I'm on the board of the Hindu Student Union, and I am also a founding member of an Indian classical dance troupe, so we have performances throughout the year," she said.
She works with children in the area, teaching a Health for Life class with the Joint Education program, where she talks about how to stay sun smart, eat right, and exercise. She is also editor of two student newspapers, plays the violin, and has written several fantasy novels she hopes to soon publish.
Currently a Schumway Surgical Skills Intern at Stanford, Krishnamani wants to become a doctor.
